Before you found out you were pregnant, you probably never thought about Folic Acid.

Now it’s one of the most important things you need to think about!

* It’s the thing every pregnant woman needs.

* It’s the thing the baby in your belly needs.

* It’s the thing you need if you are even “thinking about” becoming pregnant!

While your sweet little baby is busy growing all the important parts, folic acid is helping to prevent birth defects of your baby’s brain and spine.

So, what is this Folic Acid and where can I get it?

1. Fruits and vegetables such as oranges, citrus fruit, broccoli and leafy green vegetables naturally contain Folic Acid.  If you like to check labels, some bread, cereal and pasta may be fortified with Folic Acid.

2. Prenatal vitamins.  Check this label too! Make sure it contains at least 400 mcg of Folic Acid.

How much Folic Acid do I need?

If you are planning to become pregnant, or just found out you are pregnant, you need to take 400 micrograms a day.

As you progress in your pregnancy, your doctor may want you to take more Folic Acid.

Look at what you’re doing for your baby already…                                                                       You are a great mom!
