I’m Pregnant, Now What?

You might think that all women just know what to do when they get pregnant. That’s not true!

Even though I was a nurse and excited about my pregnancy, I had a lot of questions. I felt discouraged and frustrated and I didn’t know where to turn for answers. Sometimes I didn’t even know what I should be asking.

What I learned was that it is normal to have questions and worries about being pregnant. At Mary’s House, we can talk with you about your questions and it’s free!

Here are a few basic things to know for your pregnancy:

  1. Make an appointment with an Obstetrician (the doctor who takes care of you and your baby during pregnancy and delivery.)
  2. Begin taking a Pre-Natal vitamin.
  3. Take care of yourself by eating healthy and increasing the amount of water you drink.
  4. Now is the time to stop those bad habits! Drinking alcohol, smoking or using illicit drugs can cause birth defects and many other complications during pregnancy.
  5. Did you know that you should stay away from cat litter boxes, hot tubs, raw and undercooked meats and eggs?
